116th Street and Keystone Parkway Open to Traffic

Carmel, IN – The 116th Street and Keystone Parkway interchange is now open to traffic. Over the holiday weekend, construction crews worked diligently to remove portions of temporary pavement used for maintaining traffic during construction and have successfully connected the 116th Street bridge over Keystone Parkway. The roundabout interchange, the fourth to open on Keystone Parkway, will allow traffic to return to normal commuting patterns. Pedestrian movements at the interchange will not be permitted at this time as the remainder of the multi-use paths and sidewalk on the bridge are still awaiting construction.

During the spring of 2010, a 15-day closure of 116th Street will be necessary to fully complete the construction of the interchange prior to closures beginning at Carmel Drive and Keystone Parkway.

The 116th Street interchange is part of the second phase of a three-year project to lower the grade of Keystone Parkway under six major interchanges along the five-mile stretch. When completed, the north-south traffic on Keystone Parkway will be free-flowing with no traffic lights between 96th Street and 146th Street, and tear-drop shaped roundabouts will manage the east-west traffic flow.
