Plans Unveiled for New
Development in Arts & Design District
Carmel, IN – Ground was broken
and plans unveiled at 11 a.m. this morning for phase one of
the retail/residential units located at the southeast corner
of Range Line Road and Main Street in the Carmel Arts and
Design District. The redevelopment of this corner is the
second large project undertaken by the Carmel Redevelopment
Commission (CRC) and City of Carmel as part of their plan to
create an Arts and Design District filled with art
galleries, boutiques, cafes, and other specialty shops. The
AMLI retail and residential center closer to the Monon Trail
was the first major project in the area as part of this
initiative.
Phase one of the development on the southeast
corner of Main and Range Line Road includes six live/work
units totaling approximately 30,000 square feet of retail
and residential space. These units will be similar to the
AMLI project in that they will have retail on the main level
and residential on the upper two or three floors. It will
differ from AMLI in that the majority of this project will
be sold by the developer to the business owners. This allows
smaller businesses to own their own building and have an
investment in the district in which their store or gallery
is located.
Phase two of this project will add four more
units to the east end of phase one along Main Street. The
eastern most unit will house the Carmel Chamber of Commerce,
who have temporarily moved their offices to a location at
131st and US 31.
Pedcor is developing this property and will
retain ownership of the corner unit at the intersection of
Main Street and Range Line Road. Pedcor is the same company
that is developing City Center at Range Line Road and City
Center Drive (126th Street).
“We are excited to move ahead on phase one of
this development so that the artists who are investing in
this property can locate in the district and increase the
cultural vibrancy here. This is exactly the type of
development we envisioned with the creation of the Carmel
Arts & Design District,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
Those investing in the new development include
Cathy Spoon, owner of Red Dot Gallery; Cherie Piebes and
husband John Heinzinger, co-owners of Artisan Masterpiece;
Mark Grosser, owner of M Grosser Jewelry Design Gallery; and
Magdalena Hoyos-Segovia, owner of Magdalena Hoyos-Segovia
Artist Gallery.
